The American Bullfrog — the undisputed heavyweight champion of the wetlands. Your thunderous croak alone shakes the bog. Now take aim with your powerful water blasts and dominate every wave of flying invaders!
The American Bullfrog has the loudest call of any North American frog. Its deep 'jug-o-rum' bellow can be heard over 800 meters away and is produced by a large resonating vocal sac under its throat.
Bullfrogs are fierce, opportunistic predators that will eat almost anything they can fit in their enormous mouths — insects, fish, mice, small birds, snakes, and even other frogs.
Unlike most frogs, bullfrogs rarely stray far from water. They're powerful swimmers and can dive deep to escape predators or ambush prey rising from the depths of ponds and lakes.
A single female bullfrog can lay up to 20,000 eggs in a single clutch — one of the largest egg masses of any North American amphibian. The eggs float on the water surface in a large thin mass.
